Alternatives for the Future of our Region
Imagine Greater Tucson has developed four alternatives for the future of the Greater Tucson Region based on input received during community workshops (learn more at the bottom of this page). Read more about the alternatives. These alternatives are currently being evaluated by our community. To provide your feedback please take the survey, or find a paper version of the survey at these Pima County libraries:

Scenario Building Workshop Maps
During a period spanning almost two months – from early May to late June 2011 – nearly 650 area residents came together and shared their visions for the future of our region. The results of their work is now available to view online. Simply click on one of the images below to see the over 100 maps produced in the various workshops. Enjoy, and don’t forget to share a thought or impression in the comments box. (Note: to see maps in more detail, click on an individual map from the Flickr site and then right click to zoom to desired scale.)
A big thank you to all our workshop participants, facilitators and volunteers. You made these events a great success and a very memorable experience.
If you were unable to attend, but would like to see the workshop process, please take a look at this video from the Tucson Convention Center 05/18/2011: http://www.youtube.com/user/IGTucson
Our Progress: Phase 1
In the coming decades, our region is expected to grow by approximately 1 million people. How this growth occurs will affect every aspect of our lives: where we live and work, our commuting patterns, where businesses locate and how many jobs are available, the air we breathe, and access to the outdoors.
By the Numbers

What You Said
“Small town feel in a big city, you have everything you need available as in a big city, but Tucson has a great small town community feel in terms of community events, family-owned stores/restaurants etc.”
“I want to be able to travel in an efficient, safe, rapid manner to various destinations around town.”
“I love to hike and get out into nature. I feel more calm and at peace when I am hiking. Having nearby trails that are easily accessible is important to me.”
“Something needs to unify this community so that the right decisions can be made towards a common vision for the future.”
“With sprawl, you lose the sense of place and the unique identity of the Tucson region. You also destroy the resources that make this area so desirable and attractive.”
“The University offers so much to the community from continuing education, to performing arts and athletics; many of which are comparable to professional offerings in other cities.”
“We cannot keep our young people, our most precious asset, if we cannot provide them with financial opportunity. We have an enormous brain drain from our University. There must be a business structure that keeps this talent here in our region.”
Results from Conversations and Surveys
Community Conversations used lively, interactive methods to involve participants in developing shared ideas about the future of the Tucson region and the possibilities for improving the quality of life for us all. Online surveys were taken by interested individuals throughout the region.
The results shown here list the unprocessed information as it was obtained from people like you talking over what they like about our region, what they would like to change or improve and why it is important to them. The analysis process used to work with the data is also described.
